[240323, 00:24] The ‘drop all at once’ model was really novel when we first got it — finally, we get to watch things in one go! No more waiting! As time has gone on, it’s clear that it’s hamstringing releases.
Think about the shows people talk about, and I’d be willing to bet they’re all weekly drop shows. They’re easier to talk about, because everyone is forced to watch at the same pace. Sure, that’s less “agency” (whatever the fuck that means) but it also means every episode becomes a communal experience. When something drops all at once, you talk about it for like a few days? A week tops? And then it fades into the ether. You don’t remember individual episodes. You find it harder to remember what actually happened. All because it bleeds together, because we all had to rush to watch it in order to avoid spoilers.

[240322, 11:36] Every time I watch the Glee pilot I remember why that show took over my life for a few years. The editing, the amount of comedy crammed into every line (and most of it lands!), the sheer camp of it! It could’ve ended its run as a classic all-timer show… but the Pilot and literally anything from S4 onwards feel like entirely different shows.

[240321, 10:10] I love seeing Letterboxd’s Top 4 videos, where they ask actors their Top 4 Fav Films. This one’s a treat, McKenna Grace gets so excited to do it.
I kinda hate the overwhelming sentiment in the comments nowadays of this videos of people judging how “real” vs “pretentious” different people’s lists are, though. There’s a line to be drawn between this, anti-intellectualism, Disney, and how the internet went from an Exclusive Place for Nerds to a Posting Ground for Cool People.

[240319, 09:16] The poster for the “Twisted Childhood Universe” was released today, and it’s such an indictment on adult millennial entertainment. It is confounding to me that such a vapid franchise of films can have such confidence to greenlight all these movies, knowing that our bar for entertainment — content — is so low now.
There’s nothing here! It’s not even a case of not liking shitty movies, because shitty movies can be fun. This is just the idea of us as overgrown kids who keep dipping back into nostalgia for comfort, confirmed. Why do we want “our childhood, but made adult” so much?
[240319, 11:17] Apparently, Malaysians consume ~1.2kg of garlic a year. I’ll be completely honest: I thought the number would be higher.
